DISSERTATIONS
Final Year - Semester 1

01. Progress report
You will submit a report on the progress of your dissertation at the end of week 6 as part of EGM534. The report particularly focuses on refining your methodology and we advise you see your supervisor prior to the submission, as well as after it is marked to receive the most effective feedback.
You can expect detailed feedback on the dissertation report by week 9 if you submit it by the week 6 deadline. Meeting your supervisor at this point is a good opportunity to clear up outstanding issues and check your data collection / pilot results ahead of your poster presentation.
Deadline: Midnight 05.11.2023
Submit: Blackboard, GES Dissertation Support Area

02. Poster presentation
You will present a poster summarizing your dissertation progress at the end of week 12 as part of EGM534. The presentation takes place in the Octagon Hall and is similar in format to an academic conference event. The presentation particularly encourages you to develop your dissertation by presenting pilot results to demonstrate that your chosen methodology is effective.
A digital version of the poster is submitted to BBL ahead of the event to allow supervisors to read it and prepare questions. The printed poster and presentation is marked live at the event by your supervisor. Feedback and marks are available shortly after the event.
Deadline [online submission]: Midnight 10.12.2023
Submit: Blackboard, GES Dissertation Support Area
Deadline [presentation event]: Morning 13.12.2023
Final Year - Semester 2

01. Submit draft dissertation
You have the opportunity to submit a draft dissertation at the end of week 6, and receive feedback prior to your final submission. We advise you submit a full draft if possible to allow your supervisor to provide the most effective feedback. Partial drafts are also accepted, but feedback will obviously be limited in this case.
You can expect detailed feedback on a draft of your dissertation by week 9 if you submit it by the week 6 deadline. After this point, you can expect your supervisor to answer specific questions (e.g. clarification of methods, interpretation of a result, or the content of a figure/table), but not to comment on full sections of your dissertation.
Deadline: Midnight 10.03.2024
Submit: Blackboard, GES Dissertation Support Area

02. Submit final dissertation
Your dissertation should use the IMRaD structure, the most prominent norm for the structure of a scientific report, where IMRAD is an acronym for introduction, methods, results, and discussion.
Your final dissertation is worth 100% of module EGM503, and 20 credits, the same as all other 5 final year modules.
Your dissertation is double blind-marked; by your supervisor and another member of academic staff with similar teaching/research interests. The process is moderated by the Dissertaiton Co-ordinator and the External Examiner.
Detailed guidelines are provided in the Dissertation Handbook.
