Job Title: GIS Technician

Reporting to: Head of Consenting

Location: This position will be based in Cork or Dublin

Simply Blue Energy OSW Ltd (“SBE OSW”), the offshore wind arm of Simply Blue Energy, is actively developing a major renewable energy portfolio with 8 GW of floating offshore wind and 4 GW of fixed-bottom wind projects across multiple markets.


In November 2025, Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. (“KEPCO”) completed a Share Subscription Agreement with Simply Blue Energy OSW Ltd (SBE OSW). This strategic investment marked KEPCO’s first investment involving management participation in an offshore wind developer.


With an experienced and dedicated team operating from offices in Cork, Dublin, Belfast, Newquay, Pembrokeshire, Edinburgh, Bilbao and Nova Scotia, SBE OSW is strategically positioned to deliver large-scale offshore wind projects.


Purpose of the role:

The GIS Technician is responsible for supporting the development and execution of offshore renewable energy projects, ensuring technical, environmental and commercial feasibility, alongside appropriate compliance and innovation. This role involves data creation, management, analysis, and communication to support informed decision-making, identify opportunities and risks, and promote transparency throughout the development process, alongside the provision of bespoke GIS support to projects.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining a strong development mindset in all activities which, for the GIS team, necessitates a balanced combination of technical, environmental and commercial aspects of offshore wind development, with specialist GIS skills and stewardship to ensure the optimisation of projects for delivery.

  • Overseeing Data Management & Quality Control. An oversight of data quality, documentation, version control & QA/QC processes. Maintaining standardised geospatial databases & ensuring data is consistent and validated across projects.

  • Continued creation and improvement of GIS central resources and capabilities for supported work focus areas. This includes the continual update of the SBE Simply BluePrint Intranet and regular Offshore Wind Platform updates and briefings.

  • Active participation in, and occasional delivery of GIS or consents and environment team deeper dive workshops.

  • Attend and contribute to weekly team meetings and regular reporting to the Head of Consenting on tasks, progress, challenges and successes.

  • Proactive interfacing with other internal disciplines to ensure coherent advice is always given in respect of support packages.

  • Support procurement including the development of effective technical specifications, and management of specialist GIS work scopes.

  • Actively maintain an up-to-date view of all relevant GIS subject areas enabling effective project support, feeding insights and horizon studies internally in an appropriate manner to ensure SBE remains at the cutting edge of the sector.

  • Understand and ensure all applicable regulatory requirements and standards are met or exceeded in deliverables and advice provided.

  • Engage proactively with external insight and software platforms, where such sources are relevant to the role and providing projects with effective support.

  • Continually adhere to the principles of design risk management and prioritise HSE requirements.

  • Support fund-raises and shareholder transaction activities through providing robust due diligence assistance.

  • Competently and constructively assess and challenge new market opportunities, project site rankings, technical reports and associated deliverables, contribute to stage gate assessments and where appropriate, to project steering committees.

  • For project secondments, provide direct support to projects according to the Project Job Title and Job Description allocated, reporting to the relevant position within the project. Where a Job Description is not yet established, industry best practice for the role allocated should be adopted.

  • Competent use of all relevant software required to professionally prepare and present PES or Project information for both internal and external audiences.


Experience and Qualifications:

Required:

  • Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS Pro / ArcMap / QGIS)

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field

Desired:

  • One - two years’ experience in a professional setting 

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field

  • Experience in the offshore marine sector
