Coastal Process Technician

Location: Canterbury

Salary: £23,619 per annum

Hours: 37 hours per week

Closing date: 08/07/2022

We are looking for an enthusiastic, technically minded person to join our team of coastal technicians, scientists and engineers who shares our passion for working outdoors along the beautiful Kent and East Sussex coastline.

You will be working as part of small team to deliver the Regional Coastal Monitoring Programme’s surveying, analysis and reporting duties for the Isle of Grain to Beachy Head coastline.

You must have a relevant bachelor’s degree with experience of coastal processes, data analysis and technical report writing. Experience of topographic survey techniques, technical software packages and GIS would be beneficial but full training will be given.

The work can be physically demanding, is frequently outside normal office hours due to tidal working and is undertaken in all weather conditions. On occasion, you must be able to get to the office as early as 4am when there is no public transport; a full driving licence is essential.

This role is funded through central government as Canterbury City Council is in a partnership with other maritime district councils, the county council and the Environment Agency to manage and organise the southeast Regional Coastal Monitoring Programme. The outputs from the project will be the basis for the design of all future coastal defences in the region and are of considerable importance to everyone in the south east in view of rising sea levels as a result of climate change.
