Marine and Coastal Policy Officer, SWAN Ireland

Salary: €42,000 – €47,000

Location: Mostly remote – you will be expected to work in the office two days per month. Candidates must be flexible to travel as required for meetings and events

Contract type: Three-year contract with the possibility of a permanent position, depending on funding.

THE ROLE:

SWAN is now recruiting an experienced Marine and Coastal Policy Officer to join its team and play a central role in its advocacy work. The Policy Officer will work on marine policy (particularly the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD)) and marine spatial planning, and also on the interaction between these policy areas and the Water Framework Directive (WFD) and Habitats & Birds directives.

To take on this important role, we are seeking candidates with significant experience in marine policy, preferably in the NGO sector, and with a postgrad qualification in marine science; biology, ecology, conservation, or water science/management with heavy marine content. We would also welcome interest from candidates who have been working in wider/non-marine environmental policy areas in the NGO sector once they could demonstrate transferrable skills and knowledge of marine science and law.

If you’re an adaptable, solutions focused, marine policy professional with advocacy or campaigning expertise, a positive disposition, and a can-do attitude, we’d love to hear from you!
