The successful candidates will join a project called ‘SeaForest: from reef to resilience’, which will investigate the distribution and population density of five kelp species around the coast of Ireland, along with associated biodiversity.

For RA1, approximately 30% of work will be in the field, 20% in logistics and planning field campaigns, 40% in the lab / analysing SONAR, and the remaining 10% in communication (report writing and presentations).

For RA2 approximately 30% of work will be in the field, 20% on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data layers, 40% in lab identification (invertebrates) and the remaining 10% in communication (report writing and presentations).

Both Research Assistants will also be involved in project dissemination events and developing monitoring tools with the National Biodiversity Data Centre and Seasearch Ireland. Liaison with team members at University of Galway, the project Steering Group, and reporting to PIs, are other important roles on the project. A good awareness and appreciation of Health & Safety procedures during both lab and fieldwork is essential.
